Company History

Mega Fishing Corporation began as a commercial deep sea purse seine operation in Zamboanga City on July 1995 with an initial workforce of about 300 employees. The company's operations in Zamboanga was an offshoot of Sea Gold Corporation (mother company based in Navotas, Metro Manila) to expand its fishing operations and develop a market niche in the Southern part of the country.

At present, the company employs over 800 workers both in sea and land based operations.

MFC vessels operate in the vicinity of the Sulu Sea, Bolod, Pandalusan, Pabunuan, Pilas Island, and Tulnalutan, that have proved excellent fishing grounds in the South. These vessels, with it's competent and trusted officers are currently manning 7 cathers, 17 carriers, 17 lightboats, 7 sonar and skiff boats. The company supplies about 90 percent of raw firesh fish for canning companies in Manila and Zamboanga as well as, the fresh fish markets in Cagayan de Oro City, Tagum, Davao del Norte, Dipolog City, Iligan City, Pagadian City, Valencia, Bukidnon, and Butuan City in Agusan. In the latter part of 1999, the company, through the establishment of it's own canning factory, the Ayala Seafoods Corporation, started it's own brand name "Mega Sardines".

In 1998, the company constructed a fishmeal processing plant on it's 7 hectares lot in Talisayan, Zamboanga City which is about 22 kilometers from the City proper. This was intended to take care of the head and tails and waste coming out from the canning plant using modern steam processed and not sun dried. Our head and tails fishmeal has a Philippine Bureau Standard Result of 55% protein content and above while the whole fishmeal has 60% protein content and above.

In 1999, to support the fishing operation, the company built a 150 tons capacity block ice plant and 800 metric tons capacity block ice plant and 800 metric ton cold storage in Talisayan, Zamboanga City.

In September 2000, the company introduced "Spanish Style Sardines" in Soya Oil the first ever"easy open can" in the market. "Mega Sardines" made a notable mark in the market, for it is a product of what is termed as the "catching to canning" process, wherein the preservation is done on the catching site by using a lot of ice, whereby the freshness of the fish is guaranteed and within 12 hours after catching, the sardines are canned. It has a competitive price against leading brands.

At present, we are in the process of developing our 4 hectares lot in Cawit, Zamboanga City which about 14 kms. away from the city proper. The port project, which is expected to finish by September 2003 was built to facilitate the loading of ice, fuel, water, subsistence and unloading of fish.
